Cheap Shares In A Choppy Market

My latest blog

Turbulent markets

Published in Investing Strategy on 23 January 2008

Here's an instant 'buy list' for today's market turmoil.

So the market has dropped and you're looking for undervalued shares.

I can help.

Join the Motley Fool's Champion Shares community and you'll have immediate access to my Champion Shares 'buy list'.

At present the list contains twelve shares. You can choose from:

* A powerful, cash-generative blue-chip;
* A high-margin, mid-cap media stalwart;
* Two high-margin, cash-rich tech businesses;
* Two cash-rich stock brokers with owner-orientated managers;
* Three family-run small-caps with asset-rich balance sheets, and;
* Another three small-caps with long-time bosses and cash-rich balance sheets.

I'm sure you've noticed a common theme on my list. Ten of the twelve 'buys' enjoy what I feel to be reasonably strong balance sheets. This in part stems from the caution I expressed about the market -- and my suggestion of a possible downturn -- just before the credit squeeze began. I'd like to think my 'buys' will be able to weather any economic difficulties relatively well. I bet there are some names on the list that could interest you. They all look cheap to me.

Alongside my buy list, joining the Champion Shares community gives you full access to all my other share tips.

You'll be able to discover my 'buy limits' for the six other recommendations I currently rate as 'hold'. These include Vodafone (LSE: VOD) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) .

This 'hold list' could come in handy if the market falls even further.

What now?

I hope you can take advantage of the market's recent volatility though the Champion Shares service. Though I cannot offer any promises, I feel all my recommendations have a good chance of delivering superior returns over time. Of course I could be wrong and, as with any stock-market investment, they could end up losing you money.

Once you've joined the Champion Shares community through this 30-day free trial, you can learn all about my share tips. Just click on the 'Latest BUY/HOLD/SELL Summary' link on the Champion Shares website to discover their identities.

The 30-day free trial also provides full access to subsequent updates plus numerous other share ideas. Recent research covers ARM (LSE: ARM) , Capita (LSE: CPI) and IG Group (LSE: IGG) . Remember, there is no obligation to pay a penny.
